Rachel and my son, Kenny, began planning about 6 months before the wedding. Both being Clemson Alum and tailgate professionals, they chose a Saturday without a game, which ensured all of the Clemson fans would be at the wedding. Perfect! During their entire time at Clemson, they had not known each other; they met in Charleston where they both were offered jobs after graduation. It took them both moving to Charleston after graduation for God’s perfect timing to take place!
I have been in the wedding industry for quite some time and should know about the details of a wedding, right? Well, when it comes to your own child’s wedding, my advice is to step back and let the professionals handle it! In the Upstate of South Carolina there are incredible wedding professionals that create amazing weddings. Rachel and Kenny’s choices were on point– a fabulous vendor team!
Their wedding at Sleepy Hollow showcased their love for Clemson. The flowers and decorations transformed the historical brick barn and wedding green into a simple, yet elegant space. Working within their budget, Renee Burroughs Design created breath-taking florals from the wedding arbor, the entry doors, bouquets, boutonnieres, mother’s wristlets, table scapes, to even fresh flowers in the restroom. Her attention to detail is phenomenal! The photos tell the story.
The photos…they just give me goosebumps every time I look at them. Southern Jewel Photography was able to truly capture the emotions of the day. Kenny and Rachel (being a wedding videographer herself) contacted a short list of photographers/videographers. With the galleries of photos on the websites and quick responses, they made their final choice. I believe that photos have to speak to you and you really have to like who is behind the camera. What is not to like about Amber and Charlie? Talented, fun, energetic and tech savvy!
The hope was to have some photos taken at Death Valley but with it being a non-Saturday game week, it was not available for the weekend. Somehow, Rachel was able to make it happen!! So after the ceremony they hopped in the SUV and headed for Memorial Stadium. The shots they got were incredible. See for yourself! And the video, just wow…. Their entrance had to be preceded by the Clemson Tiger mascot, of course, and DJ Paul Hoke supplied all the music including the Tiger Rag! Paul teaches Swing and Rachel knew he was the one for the wedding. He definitely kept that dance floor full!
Amazing wedding needs amazing food, which was a no brainer because Kenny’s favorite in Anderson is Sullivan’s Metropolitan Grille. Bill and his fabulous staff never disappoint (and I see many weddings that they cater). The food was hot, perfectly timed, and that Shrimp and Grits….OMGosh. Kenny also had his choice for the rehearsal dinner dessert, which he again did not have to think twice – Sullivan’s White Chocolate Macadamia Cheesecake, Mocha Heath Bar Cheesecake and Tiramisu was my personal touch. Wow…Sabra can do desserts!!! I could go on and on about their food, if you haven’t been there, try it! Dessert was the perfect finish to the couples’ fav of Smokin’ Pig BBQ.
And of course, they had cake! The couple knew exactly the design they wanted, a four tier buttercream cake with mixed shapes (square, hexagon and round) having a centered purple ribbon and purple scroll on each tier. Ribbon cascaded down one side with the fresh flowers crowning the creation and surrounding the base. Even if you know the flavors and have tasted them before, it still is fun to sit down for the official tasting. They chose to offer their guests sweet potato with cinnamon buttercream, almond, white cake with éclair filling and white with caramel buttercream filling. Taking a bit of artistic license – we added two fondant tigers on the back representing the marriage of our Clemson couple – with a diamond on her paw and all!
The rehearsal dinner was held outside at our home so after consulting with the planner Heather from Timeless Events and Renee for décor, the next call was to Event Rentals. It was so easy to determine the size tent and all the items needed. They came on time, set up in a flash with an easy pickup, no worries. Renee and Heather were able to incorporate some personal items from the couple as children into the décor which was so fun for the guests to get a peek into their childhood. I do not know how couples can pull together all the details without a planner. Having a planner does not just mean they make the decisions, they make your vision for the event a reality– a smooth, flawless celebration. Even though I was Mother of the Groom, I underestimated the emotional impact the wedding would have and Renee and Heather were the best for this impactful day!! Couldn’t, wouldn’t do it without them!
